Voice of the Chippewas
Shawn Bednard is the Director of Broadcasting & Communications, as well the primary Play-by-Play Voice of the Chippewa Hockey Network.
His sophomore year, he and Tyler Marcotte co-founded CHN off of the idea of having broadcast experience and the drive to create a product that was completely their own.
Bednard was initially brought on as the Public Address Announcer of CMU D3 Hockey, but had much bigger plans. When he put together the idea list of things to accomplish for the 15-16 year, live broadcasts was number one on the list. Marcotte shared the sentiment, and the two worked tirelessly to create the entirety of the network before the season was truly underway.
In his second year with the Chippewa Hockey Network, Bednard has high expectations for every game broadcast from every member of the network. After calling 42 games in his inaugural season, including 12 ACHA National Tournament games and the ACHA Division 3 National Championship game, he comes back as a seasoned veteran of Chippewa Hockey, and has embedded himself as the Voice of the Chippewas.
Bednard created the Chippewa Hockey Network’s partnerships with ESPN Radio MRSN and MAC TV, and continues to try expanding the outreach of the broadcasts. Continuously working to create the best on-air product for fans and listeners, Bednard is always working to improve with each and every game called.
During the offseason, Bednard worked as the Assistant General Manager and Director of Broadcasting of the Lake Erie Monarchs collegiate summer baseball team.
